We
leave from Arbatax station, following the same route as the two previous
excursions, but we will discover different things on our journey to Seui. Seui
boasts a unique environmental patrimony, within the territory we find
the Montarbu forest and numerous ancient remains from the Nuragic
period. But the real attraction is the historic centre with its medieval
roots, characterized by stone houses and winding streets.
The
highlight of our excursion is the Seui Museum and Monument Itinerary(
Percorso Museale Monumentale Sehuiense) which includes the Spanish
prison(built in 1647), “Casa Farci”, the Art Nouveau building from1900,
the 19th century townhall with its civic galley, the house of
Caredda Loy, and the churches of San Giovanni and Santa Maria Maddalena. During
the itinerary you can visit the anthracite mining area and learn about
the hard life of the Seui miners who worked there between 1800 and 1960.
At the
Spanish prison you get to know about the dramatic conditions in which
the convicts lived up until 1975. Whereas at “Casa Farci” you come into
contact with the culture and history of the Seui people, as well as,
documents by the famous writer and politician. |
