Leaving from Arbatax, railway station by the sea, we travel through
the territories of Girasole, Villagrande, Elini, Arzana, Ilbono and
Lanusei; the Gennargentu mountain chain appears majestically , its
peaks reflected in the Flumendosa lake, the highest in Sardinia. The
scenery is breathtaking, “La Perda Liana” rocky limestone outcrop
introduces us to the territories of Gairo, Ussassai, Ulassai and
Seui, where the landscape changes yet again. After about 60 km the
train stops and we continue on foot to the natural oasis of
Montarbu where an expert guide leads us around the park. Then we
have a typical Sardinian lunch in the shade of century-old evergreen
oaks: culurgionis (fresh handmade ravioli), marracconeddus
sciarrancaus (local gnocchi), delicious roast meats, all washed down
with an excellent Cannonau wine. In the afternoon we take a pleasant
walk to the rocky limestone
buttes nearby. |
