The cave
was first explored and
surveyed in the 1950s by the
speleological group PIO XI.
So far 800 m of tunnels have
been mapped, while others
are still being explored.
The
cavity is also important
from a faunistic point of
view, because it was there
that Padre Forreddu, one of
the founders of Sardinian speleology, studied the monk
seal, living day and night
in close contact with the
mammal.
The cave is situated 7 m
above sea level, along the
limestone cliffs of the gulf
of Orosei. Safe gangways
will allow you to walk
easily over the fossil bed
of an ancient river. |

This proposal will take you
through the mysterious
tunnels of an ancient land
to hidden chasms to undersea
caves in the splendid cliffs
of Baunei, to discover a
unique and fascinating
world. Expert guides will
lead you along underground
waterways to the home of
rare species and you will
venture into caves of
incredible beauty with
unusual-shaped stalagmites
and stalactites.
