In the
mountainous Ogliastra of
granites and porphyries and
schists, the territory of
Villagrande keeps an
extraordinary density of
archaeologic sites, immersed
in an environment and
landscape context of extreme
fascination. The itinerary
wants to offer a vision of
nuraghic civilization
through very interesting
monumental evidences,
linked to housing, sacred
and funeral sphere.
In the
area of Genna Troculu, near
the lake of Flumendosa, you
can admire the remains of a
common tomb, like’ tomba dei
giganti ‘(Giants’tomb). The
monument dug up in 1991, was
later removed and rebuilt on
a small hill not far from
its original site, in order
to avoid its complete
destruction because of the
construction of
SS 389 (State street).
The
escavation has shown two
phases of using it referring
to different ages of Bronze
Age. At S’Arcu’e Is Forros,
on a light undulation of the
ground south of the pass of
Corr’e Boi, nuraghic people
made a living settlement
with pre-urban features.
Here the researches carried
out from the 80s on have
discovered a monumental
temple megaron-type, the
only one in Ogliastra so
far, with its four cells
perhaps dedicated to the
cult of water.
The
building is preceded by a
sacred ellipsoidal
enclosure (temenos) on which
some service rooms are. This
area has given back some
interesting proofs about an
intensive metallurgical
activity and of close
cultural and economic
contacts with the Aegean
world in the late Bronze
Age. The itinerary ends with
a trip on the spectacular
peaks of Gennargentu. |
